Anyone been to IFA Berlin event before? What to expect?

€17 is basically nothing for what you get there. It's one of the biggest tech trade shows in the world, so you'll see everything from massive TV displays to random smart home gadgets you never knew existed. The public days (Saturday and Sunday) are crowded, especially around the Sony and Samsung halls, so go early if you actually want to demo anything. The food inside is overpriced and mediocre, so grab a Döner at Imren Grill on Sonnenallee on your way out instead.

the public transport situation to messe berlin is worth knowing about. u can take the s-bahn to messe nord/icc but the u-bahn to kaiserdamm is usually faster if ur coming from central. also the signal inside is garbage so download the ifa app on wifi before u go, the map is lifesaving. if u like photography the camera section in hall 9 is less packed than the tv halls and u can actually test lenses without elbowing someone

honestly for €17 it's a steal even if you just wander around for a few hours. the crowds on public days are real though, like sardines in the main halls, so if you can swing a weekday ticket it's way more chill. my tip is to skip the big brand booths and hit the startup area in Hall 5, that's where the weird stuff lives like robot vacuum cleaners that also mop or some AI thing that tries to guess your mood from your typing speed. also the free samples situation is hit or miss, don't go expecting free AirPods or anything

Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
