Hello everyone,

I was wondering if you have some input regarding this- I noticed that with quite a few matches I get on tinder (I'm a woman) they (guys) send me a heart ❤️ as the first message. Is this a Berlin thing?

I am curious because this never occurs on the other dating apps (bumble, OkCupid, etc) but it continuously happens on tinder. I have a normal profile.

Thanks

Worth checking whether your matches are actually opening your profile first. Tinder surfaces the heart reaction right on the match card, so a lot of guys tap it before they've read a single thing, which is why the same faces send it to everyone. Something I've noticed living here: Berlin profiles tend to be photo heavy with almost no text, so there's literally nothing to reply to except a picture, and the heart becomes the path of least resistance. If you want to test it, add one line that's easy to answer, like a specific spot you'd defend, and see how many of the heart tappers suddenly find words.

the heart is tinder's "like" button on ur message thread, its different from the swipe. if u look at the top of the chat theres a little heart icon u can tap before u even type, so ppl hit it from the match list without opening anything. bumble & okc dont have that shortcut in the inbox which is why u only see it here. also half of em are probably swiping on the u-bahn with one thumb & a dying battery, so the bar is on the floor

cant speak for the app mechanics but i will say the heart thing feels very berlin to me in a different way, like the whole "write nothing, look interested, stay unbothered" energy is just how a lot of ppl here flirt. its the same vibe as someone at a späti giving u a nod instead of saying hi. if u want words, put a concrete question in ur bio like "berlin or kreuzberg, defend it" & the lazy tappers filter themselves out

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
