honestly, check if your building already has the passive infrastructure in the basement. a lot of places got the street digging done but never got the in-house connection activated because the landlord just ignored it. if the fiber is already sitting in the cellar, you can sometimes get it switched on by any provider that has a point of presence in the building, even if the landlord signed some deal with pyür.

for the telekom contract issue, ask them about a "tarifwechsel mit laufzeitverlaengerung" - they might let you switch to a fiber tariff early if you agree to extend your contract by 12 months. i did that last year and got 1gbit symmetric for 45€, the upstream alone was worth it. the telekom call center people are hit or miss but if you get a competent one they can pull up your exact options.

and about pyür, 500 mbit is fine for most stuff but their customer support is laughably slow. a friend in wedding had an outage for 3 days and they took 48 hours to even acknowledge the ticket. if you can avoid them, i would.

Also aus Friedrichshain kenne ich das Problem. Bei uns hat die Telekom vor zwei Jahren gebuddelt, aber der Vermieter hat erstmal gar nichts gemacht. Irgendwann habe ich dann rausgefunden, dass der Hausanschluss schon im Keller liegt, nur freigeschaltet werden muss. Vielleicht fragst du mal bei der Hausverwaltung direkt nach, ob der Kasten schon da ist.

Zu Pyür kann ich sagen, die haben in manchen Ecken wirklich Exklusivrechte, aber 500 Mbit sind zumindest symmetrisch und damit für NAS schon brauchbar. Falls du bei der Telekom bleibst, frag nach dem "Glasfaseranschluss ohne Vertrag" Modell, die legen manchmal die Leitung kostenlos wenn du später wechselst. Ansonsten hilft nur abwarten, zwei Jahre klingt hart aber die Zeit rennt schneller als man denkt.

Ja, das kenne ich. Bei mir in Neukölln war es ähnlich frustrierend. Wir haben hier im Kiez Glasfaser von der Telekom, aber der Anschluss im Haus hat ewig gedauert, weil der Vermieter sich nicht gekümmert hat. Letztlich habe ich dann einfach einen Termin mit der Telekom direkt gemacht und die haben das mit dem Hausverwalter geklärt, ohne dass ich groß was tun musste.

Zu Pyür: die haben in manchen Gegenden einen Exklusivvertrag mit der Wohnungsbaugesellschaft, da kann man dann wirklich nur deren Tarife nehmen. 500 Mbit sind aber immerhin mehr als deine 250, auch wenn der Upstream bei symmetrischen Tarifen oft besser ist. Vielleicht lohnt es sich, bei der Telekom nachzufragen, ob die trotzdem einen Anschluss legen können, wenn du im Vertrag bist. Die haben oft Kulanzlösungen, vor allem wenn du schon Kunde bist.

Was den Upstream angeht: 42 Mbit ist wirklich mager für NAS oder Cloud. Ich bin vor einem Jahr auf 1 Gbit symmetrisch umgestiegen und es ist ein riesiger Unterschied. Aber bis 2026 zu warten ist natürlich ärgerlich. Vielleicht kannst du bei der Telekom einen Tarifwechsel raushand

yeah the guide's got the main stuff down, one thing i'd add is that the späti culture is legit for saving money but specifically the ones in kreuzberg near kottbusser tor have the cheapest beers, like 0.80 eur for a can of sterni. also if you're doing the sunday museum thing, skip the pergamon queue and go to the hamburger bahnhof instead, it's way less crowded and has cool contemporary art plus the building itself is a converted train station so it's a vibe

for food, i'd say the best budget move is not the döner but the falafel at yafa on sonnenallee, 4 eur for a massive plate and it's open till late. and tbh the reichstag booking is a pain but if you miss it, the rooftop at the kollhoff tower near potsdamer platz is like 4 eur and gives you a solid view without the hassle

solid write-up, one thing i'd add is that the 7-day ticket is actually 41 eur for AB but you can get a 4-trip ticket for 12 eur if you're only here a couple days and it works out cheaper than single trips. also the museum sunday freebie is great but it gets packed, like at the pergamon you'll be queuing for 30 mins minimum. for a quieter free option, try the brücke museum in grunewald on a weekday afternoon, it's small but has killer expressionist art and no crowds. oh and for a cheap meal, hit up mustafa's gemüse kebab at mehringdamm, that line is long but it's worth the 5 eur for the hype tbh

honestly the cash tip is huge, a lot of tourists don't realize how many places are still cash only here. something the guide missed is that you can get a really cheap coffee at most bakeries for like 1.50 eur if you stand at the counter instead of sitting down, way cheaper than the hipster cafes. also if you're near a späti grab a beer for like 1 eur, way cheaper than bars obviously
