honestly for appraisal work i'd go to a proper goldschmied rather than a regular jewellery shop. try Clemens & Partner near Ku'damm, they do certified valuations for insurance and know their way around inherited stones. expect to pay around 80-150€ depending on complexity, but it's worth getting a proper dokument since insurance can be picky about heirlooms

if you're near friedrichshain, try Atelier Miro on boxhagener str. they're a goldsmith workshop that does appraisals on the side and they're super thorough with heirloom stones since they do a lot of custom work. i paid €90 for a ring with a sapphire last year, got a detailed breakdown of the stone quality and setting value. the only catch is they're appointment-only and can take a week or two to get you in

yeah for something like that with an inherited stone i'd actually go to Juwelier Rupprecht in Schöneberg, they're pretty well known for estate pieces and don't try to upsell you on stuff you don't need. they charged me €110 for a ring appraisal last year, came with a proper Gutachten that the insurance accepted no questions asked. just call ahead because the guy who does the valuations is only there certain days

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
