Next year i am moving with my kid to germany, france or spain so i am asking because he is used to go out on his own or with friends like in warsaw where it is so common. Please let me know. Thanks

It really depends on the neighborhood. In places like Prenzlauer Berg or Friedrichshain, you'll see packs of 8-year-olds biking to the park or walking to the corner shop alone all the time. Kreuzberg and Neukölln are more mixed, some streets are fine and others have too much traffic for my comfort. The bigger shopping centers like Alexa or Mall of Berlin might have security that's a bit strict with unaccompanied kids that young. Your kid's Warsaw experience is pretty close to what you'd find in the more residential parts of Berlin, just with fewer playgrounds on every corner and more bike lanes.

honestly your kid will be fine here, it's just a bit different than warsaw. berlin's pretty big so the vibe changes block to block, but in most residential areas 7-10 year olds bike to school or the bäcker alone no problem. my neighbor's 8-year-old walks to the späti for sweets every afternoon, nobody bats an eye. just watch out for the radfahrer on the mixed-use paths, some of them act like they're in the tour de france. the big malls like alexa might give you a look if the kid's alone, but local shops and parks are totally normal for unsupervised kids.

yeah they do, just not as chaotic as warsaw tbh. berlin is pretty chill for letting kids roam, just keep em off the main streets during rush hour. bikes are fine, stores too, but a 7-year-old alone at a mall might get side-eyed by security.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
