I'm looking for those simple ones like they serve in a lot of cafes (carrot cake, poppy seed cake, lemon cake), the only ones I see in bakeries are with cream and fancy stuff.

honestly just go to any turkish supermarket like eurogida or the one at hermannplatz. they have these huge cake rings under a plastic dome near the bakery section, basic marble or lemon cake for like 3 euros. not fancy at all but it's the same dense cake you get with filter coffee at a späti cafe. also the bio company on weserstrasse does a decent poppy seed loaf in their bulk bin section if u want something a bit less sweet

You want a simpler cake, not the overdone cream towers. Try a Konditorei like Cafe Buchwald in Mitte, they're famous for their Baumkuchen but also have a plain marble cake and a great poppy seed Streuselkuchen that's not too sweet. Another option is Zeit fuer Brot, they do a solid carrot cake loaf and a lemon pound cake that's exactly what you'd get in a cafe slice, just grab a piece from their display.

if you're near kreuzberg, check out the bakery section at frischeparadies on eisenbahnstrasse. they have a display case with simple cakes like gugelhupf and marble loaf, sliced to order, and it's dense enough to hold up to dunking. another spot is the little counter at rosa canina on weserstrasse, they do a daily rotating cake slice that's usually something unfussy like lemon yogurt or olive oil cake, not the whipped cream stuff. also the turkish bakery at the corner of skalitzer and waldemarstrasse has a plain semolina cake with syrup that's basically a coffee cake substitute, 2 euros a slice

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
