any tips on places to get leftover/used materials for art projects?

hallo, where can I find scraps of plywood and hinges for free (or really cheap) to reuse in an art project? hallo, where can I find scraps of plywood and hinges for free (or really cheap) to reuse in an art project?

BSR recycling shops are solid, but also check out the Resteladen on Frankfurter Allee in Friedrichshain. They take leftover building materials and household stuff from搬家 cleanouts, so there's often random hardware and wood scraps for a euro or two. For hinges specifically, flea markets like the one at Boxhagener Platz on Sundays usually have a guy with a box of old cabinet hardware for a couple of euros, way cheaper than buying new. If you need larger plywood pieces, ask at a Möbelbau shop in Neukölln, they sometimes have cutoffs from custom furniture orders they'd rather not haul to the dump.

for plywood scraps, hit up Bauhaus or Hornbach's offcut bins around the wood section, they usually sell small pieces for like 1-2 euros each. hinges are trickier but check out NochMall in Wedding or BSR recycling shops, they have bins of random hardware for basically nothing. also worth asking a local Schreiner if they have scrap lying around, sometimes they'll just give it away if you catch them at the right time

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
