Is this a thing? some kind of saving measure? now i don't have very consistent showering patterns, but i'm pretty sure there is hot water in the winter late at night, and not sure exactly when it goes out in the evening these days, and there is for sure in the morning...but...wtf? There is nothing in my contract, nothing posted in the halls, or communications from the agency. Summer here ain't all that warm to shower with cold water. Any insight?

that's super weird for an altbau tbh. most old buildings here have central gas boilers that run on timers but they usually don't shut off that early in summer. could be that the agency set the boiler to a lower temp or shorter window to save money when tenants are away on holiday. might be worth checking if the boiler is in the basement or a common area and seeing if the timer's been adjusted. if it's a newer system it might have a digital control panel with a schedule programmed into it.

this sounds like a summer-only thing, some altbau buildings in kreuzberg switch to a reduced boiler schedule when outdoor temps stay above like 18c at night, it's usually coded into the building's heating contract as a "summer mode" but they never tell tenants about it. if ur shower runs off the same gas boiler as the radiators, the timer might be set to cut the burner once the ambient temp hits a threshold and the pipes cool off faster in the evening. you could try asking the hausverwaltung directly but they'll probably gaslight you so maybe just run the tap for 2-3 min before showering to see if the boiler kicks back on

yeah that's weird, prob a boiler timer issue. maybe check the basement or ask a neighbor if they notice the same thing

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
