MMA in Berlin. You know anything a beginner should knoe?

Sup? I wanted to learn how to fight. I absolutely do not plan to actually fight, but I think its a good sport. I have a bad knee though. Any Dojo/school/trainers i should look into? Sup? For a bad knee, I'd skip places that do a lot of takedown drills on mats. Check out Berlin MMA in Friedrichshain near Boxhagener Platz. They're pretty good about letting you sit out any leg-heavy sparring and focus on striking and ground control instead. A trial class there is about 15 euros and they'll usually give you some tips on modifying moves for your knee.

honestly if youve got a bad knee and wanna ease into it without getting thrown around, check out Tiger Muay Thai near U Hermannplatz. they do mostly standup work so your knee wont hate you the next day. the coaches there speak good english and theyre chill about beginners showing up with zero experience. a trial class is like 10 euro and they dont push you to spar if you dont want to.

also fwiw, if u ever wanna try something that's easier on the joints, capoeira at Capoeira Berlin in Kreuzberg is surprisingly good for learning movement and body control without the impact. not the same as fighting but it'll get you comfortable with your body and the community is super welcoming. just a thought

seconding the friedrichshain rec but honestly if your knee is bad, maybe look at a gym that's more focused on striking first. choy li fut in neukölln has a solid muay thai program and they're used to people with old injuries modifying stuff. striking is easier on the knees than wrestling or bjj takedowns and you'll still learn the basics of distance and timing. 15-20 euro for a trial at most places in berlin

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
