Can you give ne advice on some good contemporary photography galerries?
I have been once in helmet newton galerry ( it was fantastic) but this month there is just helmet newton "stuff". So basically iam looking for some "house" of photography and galleries where you can see contemporary photography. Thx much.
for actual contemporary stuff, c/o berlin at amerika-haus is probably your best bet rn, they rotate shows pretty frequently and usually have a mix of established names and emerging work. the museum für fotografie (where the newton archive lives) does have a permanent collection floor that's worth checking even if the main show isn't your thing, but i get wanting something current. if you have time, head to mehringdamm and check kleine affäre gallery, it's small but they do smart contemporary photography shows, often with local artists. stop by the cafe next door for a coffee after, it's decent
You could try the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Kreuzberg, they have a small but sharp photography program that changes every few weeks and often features younger artists working in documentary style. There's also Camera Work on Kantstraße, which leans more toward collectors and established names but their back room sometimes has interesting contemporary pieces worth a look. The space is a bit hushed and gallery-stiff, but the staff actually knows the work and won't just hand you a price list.
If you're after contemporary stuff, check out Galerie Poller on Potsdamer Straße, they focus on modern photography and often have some really interesting rotating exhibits. C/O Berlin is also a solid bet for current work, and it's a nice walk from there to the Helmut Newton place if you wanted to compare.
