For those with the Deutschland ticket: are the checkers also checking your ID?

Just wondering what your experiences were. Are the checkers scanning your Deutschland ticket, and asking you for your ID to check the name and birthday match, or just scanning and moving on?

curious…

curious if your guys' experience is matching my own. thank you

I've had my Deutschland ticket checked maybe twenty times across different lines and the ID question comes up maybe a third of the time. The BVG crew on the U2 near Zoologischer Garten tend to just scan and wave me through, but I've noticed the private security companies they contract out are more likely to ask for ID. The S-Bahn controllers near Ostkreuz have asked me every single time they've checked. I keep my ID in my phone case so it's one motion to pull both out, makes it less awkward when they do ask.

honestly i think it really depends on the time of day too. late night trains they barely glance at your phone, but morning rush they're way more thorough. once had a guy on the M10 tram actually compare my face to the photo on my id for like five seconds, felt kinda intense. i just screenshot my ticket and put my id behind my phone case, saves the awkward fumbling

yeah they check id maybe half the time, depends on the mood of the kontrolleur. bvg guys are usually more chill than s-bahn ones in my experience, the s-bahn crew near friedrichstrasse can be real sticklers. i just keep my id in the same pocket as my phone so it's not a hassle when they ask for it

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
