The German Historical Museum has a decent track record with international volunteers, especially in their education department where they run English-language tours for school groups. They're in the Mitte area and you can apply directly through their website for a "Freiwilliges Praktikum" which is usually 3-6 months.

The Schwules Museum in Kreuzberg is another good bet. They're smaller and more community focused, so they're pretty open to people who are still building their German skills. I've seen a few English-speaking volunteers do exhibition prep work there while taking language courses on the side.

For something completely different, check out the Museum der Dinge near Kottbusser Tor. It's a tiny design museum that mostly attracts locals and students, and the staff there are very relaxed about language. They sometimes need help with their archive and inventory work, which doesn't require much German to start.

fwiw the jean paul gaultier exhibit at the kulturforum is looking for floor staff rn and they're pretty chill about language. the big state museums are a pain but individual special exhibitions often hire separately from the main system

also worth hitting up the werkbund archive in tempelhof. it's a design museum but they have a lot of english-language research materials and they've hired interns who are still learning. the curator there studied abroad so she gets it

if u want something part time while u study, museum fur naturkunde has weekend visitor services roles where u mostly do ticket scanning and basic info. they had a guy from brazil working there last year who barely spoke german when he started

honestly, your best bet rn is looking at the stadtmuseum berlin foundation or the ddr museum. the stadtmuseum runs multiple sites around town and they're pretty used to international volunteers and interns, especially if you're doing visitor services or event support. the ddr museum in mitte has a pretty english-heavy setup already so they're more flexible with language levels

if you want something more academic, check out the fu berlin's museum studies program - they sometimes have openings in their affiliated museums that are more tolerant of b1/b2 german. the technical university also runs some museum-adjacent projects through their kulturarbeit department

avoid the staatliche museen at first, they're notoriously strict about language requirements even for volunteer positions. start smaller with the neighborhood museums like museum nikolaikirche or the berlinische galerie
