I feel like as much as I try to be frugal and only shop at discount stores like penny, Aldi and Lidl, my monthly costs are around 300 euro/month. I'm a single person and vegan and since I'm new to Berlin I get tempted to buy the awesome vegan stuff you guys have here but only the stuff that goes on sale.

so how much do you guys spend on food/drinks and essentials each month per person?

300 is pretty standard for a single person here. I'm not vegan but I eat mostly vegetarian and I'm around 280-320 depending on how often I grab a Döner or go to a Späti for beer. The vegan stuff at Veganz or the bio sections can really add up, even on sale.

What made a difference for me was hitting up Turkish markets in Neukölln or Wedding for produce and bulk legumes. The one on Maybachufer on Fridays is good, you can get a week's worth of veggies for under 15 euro. Also, cooking in batches for lunches saves a lot compared to grabbing something at work.

honestly 300 is pretty spot on for a single vegan here. if you wanna cut costs a bit, check out the bulk bins at shops like Bio Company or even some DM stores for grains and legumes, way cheaper than packaged stuff. also the produce stands at places like Boxhagener Platz on Sundays are great for cheap fruit and veg, just gotta get there before noon.

300 seems reasonable for one person even with vegan stuff at discount stores. I spend around 250 but I cook everything from scratch and rarely eat out.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
