Hey! I was at the Unter Den Linden U Stop just now and me and everyone else there suddenly started coughing and couldn't breathe properly. What the hell is going on? Some kinda gas leak?

could be from the spree river work they're doing near the friedrichstrasse bridge, they've been dredging sediment and that smell travels weird through the tunnel vents. happened last summer too when they were fixing the sewer lines under the linden, everyone at the stop started hacking for like 10 minutes. if ur throat still feels scratchy theres a rossmann at friedrichstrasse station that has those saltwater nasal sprays, they help flush it out

It's probably from the construction on Friedrichstrabe where they're digging up the old tram tracks. They hit a pocket of something nasty last week and people have been complaining about it ever since. If you're still feeling rough, there's a 24-hour pharmacy at the corner of Dorotheenstrabe that sells those little breathing mask things for a couple euro.

nah that happens sometimes around there, the u-bahn tunnels get weird air pockets especially when theyre doing construction work nearby. i remember a few months back they had a similar thing near brandenburger tor because of some old sewer gas getting stirred up. if it was a sharp chemical smell it might be from the road works on behrenstrabe they've been sealing asphalt all week. you should be fine now that you're above ground but maybe grab a coffee at einstein unter den linden to clear your throat

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
