Air raid siren at 3am? (Petershagen-Eggersdorf)

Anyone heard the air raid siren going off just now? (2:30-3:00 am 04/07/24)

Literally packing my stuff up to head to the airport and heard it for like 15 minutes?

That's the old fire station siren near the S-Bahn, not a national test. They use it for the volunteer fire department callouts in Petershagen, and sometimes a late night alarm like a small fire or a first responder call can set it off for that long. If you're heading to the airport you're going east toward Schönefeld, so you'll be out of earshot soon enough.

honestly that's pretty normal around here, they test the sirens on the first saturday of every month but 3am is weird timing. prob a late night maintenance check or someone hit the button by accident at the fire station on Wilhelmstraße. the video looks like the old school siren not the digital ones they installed last year

Yeah that's the volunteer fire department siren at the old station on Wilhelmstraße, not a civil defense test. Those run for about 15 seconds normally but if they're cycling it that long it means there's an actual callout happening, probably a structure fire or a serious accident on the B1/B5. The airport is maybe 25 minutes east so you'll be past it before you even hit the autobahn.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
