I'm looking for weight-training gym recommendations in or near Schöneberg.

As far as I can tell from looking online there are only two (non CrossFit or EMS) gyms in Schöneberg - FitX and Fit/One. Both of them have awful reviews. FitX reviews say it's way too hot and you can't hear when a male cleaner is about to enter the female showers. Recent Fit/One reviews saying that the place is disgustingly unclean.

Are there any alternatives?

ngl the fitx on hauptstraße is a sweatbox in summer, i lasted 3 months there. if you can deal with a slightly older crowd, check out bodyfit on akazienstraße near the u-bahn. it's not fancy but the weights area is decent and they keep the AC running. plus the staff actually patrols the locker rooms, i've never had any weirdness there.

if you're up for a short walk from s-bahn schöneberg, there's a tiny place called eisenwerk in a backyard on crellestraße. it's a powerlifting/strongman spot so the weights are heavy and the vibe is serious. no contracts, just pay per visit or buy a 10er card. owner's a grumpy dude but the equipment is pristine.

You're right that the big chain gyms in Schöneberg aren't great. Have you looked at McFit on Hauptstraße? It's a bit basic but the equipment is solid and it's rarely as packed as FitX. The downside is you'll be sharing space with a lot of students from the nearby uni, but the cleaning crew actually does their rounds. If you're willing to go a bit further, Urban Sports Club partners with several smaller studios around Nollendorfplatz that have decent weight rooms and the flexibility to hop between locations.

honestly, if ur willing to go a little south into friedenau, fit neunzehn on rheinstrasse is a proper old-school weightlifting gym. no frills, no classes, just dumbbells up to 50kg and a bunch of plate-loaded machines. it's like 30 euros a month and the owner actually cleans the place himself. bit of a trek from s-bahn friedenau but the bus 181 drops you right there

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
