Gasag scam with kids?

Yesterday two literal children (couldn't be older than 15) came to my apartment door telling me they were from Gasag. They had iPads, lanyards, everything Gasag branded. They asked me to check my meter because they would offer everyone in the building a new low price but two weeks ago someone else from Gasag checked my meter (he was 50+).

I thought this sounded scammy and lied to them and said I'm on a call and to come back in 5 minutes, as I wanted to check if they would go to the neighbors. They didn't go the neighbors and never came back.

What do we think? Scam?

yeah that's a known scam unfortunately. gasag employees are almost never kids, they're trained adults with proper ID and they don't do door-to-door meter checks on a schedule like that. the ipads and lanyards are easy to fake, you can buy that stuff online. if someone actually needs to check your meter in berlin, they usually send a letter first or you get a card in the mail with a date. you did the right thing shutting the door. if you're worried, call gasag directly at their official number and ask, but i'd bet they'll say they didn't send anyone

I've heard about this before. Usually scammers use kids because they seem less threatening and people let their guard down. If Gasag really needed to check your meter they'd send a letter or an adult with proper ID, not teenagers with iPads.

Smart move. Those branded iPads and lanyards are dead giveaways that it's a scam. You can buy full Gasag kits on eBay Kleinanzeigen for like 30 euros, the kids probably don't even know who's running it. If Gasag actually needs access, they'll send a letter with a Terminvorschlag, not send teenagers door to door on a Sunday afternoon. Report it to the Polizei if you see them again, they've been pulling this in Neukölln and Wedding for a while now.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
