Freelancer to Family Reunification Visa is possible?

I have a permanent visa and she has a Freelancer visa. We got married on January this year but we have been living together for the past 5 years. We want to plan a family in the future, so we couldn't find information on whether you can apply for a reunification visa from a Freelancer visa, any advice or experience is greatly appreciated.

you should be fine honestly. the family reunification route is more about your status than hers since you're the permanent one. she'll just need to prove the marriage is real which with 5 years together is easy. the tricky part is if she wants to keep working freelance while on the reunification visa, some clerks get weird about it. i'd suggest going to the LEA in Moabit instead of Friedrichstraße, they process things a bit more relaxed and the waiting room is less chaotic

fwiw my partner did this exact switch last year. the Ausländerbehörde didn't even ask about her freelance work once she had the family reunification, they just wanted her passport and our marriage certificate. the catch is she'll lose the freelancer status automatically so if she wants to keep doing freelance jobs she needs to apply for a separate work permit alongside the reunification visa. we filed at the Bürgeramt in Wedding and it took about 6 weeks, no fiktionsbescheinigung needed. just make sure your permanent visa is physically in your passport when you go, they scanned mine twice.

I've seen a few couples in your situation and the freelancer to family reunification path works fine, but there's a timing detail people often skip. Your wife's current freelancer visa has a specific purpose tied to it, so if she applies for family reunification too early before it expires, the clerk might ask why she's not just renewing the freelancer one instead. Aim to apply about 6 to 8 weeks before expiry, that's the sweet spot where it looks like a natural transition rather than an unnecessary switch.

Also worth knowing that the family reunification visa itself doesn't restrict her from working, but it also doesn't automatically grant permission for freelance work like her old visa did. If she wants to keep freelancing, she'll need a separate paragraph 4 Erwerbstätigkeit added to the new visa, which is a simple request but easy to forget. The clerk at the LEA in Moabit can add it on the spot if you ask, just say she needs a work permit for self-employment alongside the family visa. Bring her current freelance contracts and a recent Steuerbescheid to show she's actively working, that usually speeds things up.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
