Why are Hausbesetzungen and left-leaning bars in Berlin so white?

I've been to a few of these spaces over the years and they always seem whiter than the average bar. I am mixed race myself and very rarely see other POCs on the scene. Maybe I'm blind... has anyone else noticed this?

Edit: I changed "black" to POC to explain my question better.

yeah it's a real blind spot in the scene. a lot of those bars are run by people who came up through the same friend groups from the 90s and they just don't think about outreach. if you want a different crowd try the bar at Koko in Neukölln or any night at Loophole in Friedrichshain, both pull a way more mixed crowd than the classic punk spots. also check out the monthly "Kiezsalon" at Oyoun, it's not a bar per se but the audience is super diverse and the music is great

You're not blind, it's a real thing. A lot of these scenes grew out of specific student and artist circles in the 90s and 2000s, and the social networks just stayed pretty homogenous. You'll see more diversity at places like Oyoun in Neukölln or at events organized by groups like Neue Deutsche Medienmacher, but the classic Kreuzberg squat bars can feel like a time capsule. If you want a change, try a night at Klunkerkranich or one of the open mics at Monarch, the crowd shifts noticeably.

honestly it's just kinda how germany works in general, most social circles are super segregated by background. even the "alternative" ones

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
