The post was engaging to say the least. It was about how I liked that Berlin is a diverse city, and lets say, it became controversial, which wasn't my intention. I was just expressing my appreciation for the city. Anyway, currently we are leaving Rome and we have a flight back from Schipol on Sunday morning, so we been thinking of stopping at Berlin for a day or two, before heading back to Amsterdam. After all we loved the vibe of the city, however, guys I am traveling with suggests that we may hit a different city on our way back. Some suggested Hamburg, while some said Cologne is more Berlin like, or we stop at Berlin again. Any suggestions? Munich is out, as train to Amsterdam takes too long from there.

cologne is the closest in terms of diversity and having a big artsy/leftist scene but it's way more compact and the vibe is more "we're all here to drink outside" than berlin's "we're all here to figure out what we're doing with our lives" energy. the ehrenfeld district in cologne has those same gritty alt-bars and döner spots though. if you only have two days i'd honestly just do berlin again since you already know the layout and can skip the tourist stuff. catch a show at soho house or just wander kreuzberg for a full afternoon without a plan

honestly none of them are really like berlin. hamburg is great but it's more polished, cologne has the river party scene but it's smaller and feels more traditionally german. if u want the raw chaotic energy of berlin, just go back to berlin for two days. rent a bike, hit markthalle neun for lunch one day, walk around neukölln at night. you won't get that anywhere else

ngl if you're already gonna be near schipol why not just hit hamburg for a day then train to amsterdam. the ride from hamburg to amsterdam is like 5ish hours direct with ice. hamburg has the elbphilharmonie which is cool to see even if you don't go inside and st pauli at night has that same grimy charm as berlin's nightlife without being as intense. the reeperbahn is touristy but the side streets around it are where it gets real

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
