Hey,

I'm tired of looking like a rabid raccoon, but I'm also scared shitless of going to a hair salon. Been cutting my own hair for years, I'm starting to look crazed.

Can anyone recommend a hair salon that is autism friendly? (I'm a wöman, btw)

I'm looking for a salon that isn't sterile looking and bright as heck, with friendly barbers that are okay with awkward freaked out folk. I don't want anxiety inducing small talk either.

I don't care where in Berlin, someone will drive my autistic ass, so it's okay.

Hope it's okay I asked here.

Cheers.

If you're in Neukölln, try Haarstudio Romy on Weserstraße. It's a small, warm space with muted lighting and they're used to clients who want to keep conversation minimal. You can book online and just write in the notes that you'd prefer a quiet appointment, they're really good about that. Prices are around 40-50 euros for a cut.

I'd check out Friseur am Kollwitzplatz in Prenzlauer Berg. It's a bit old-school but they have these soft, warm lamps and the room is painted a calm green, so it doesn't feel like a doctor's office. The stylists there are used to people who don't want to chat, you can just say "no talking" and they'll nod and get to work. A cut is around 50 euros, and you can book through their website without calling.

For something a bit different, try Salon Monika in Friedrichshain near Boxhagener Platz. It's a tiny place with warm wood tones and soft lamps, not that harsh clinic vibe you'd hate. Monika herself is pretty quiet and will just ask what you want done, then get on with it. A cut there runs about 35 to 45 euros, and you can just text her on Instagram to book without any phone call stress.

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
