cheap rental car in Berlin?

I'm planning a weekend trip to bavaria with a few friends this weekend but the company over which we originally rented a car is now "insolvent" (bankrupt?) so our booking was cancelled. Now we have two days to find a cheap alternative. Any suggestions?

tbh if you're on a tight budget and just need wheels for the weekend, i'd skip the big names and try lokalrent or buchbinder. lokalrent on torstraße often has older cars for like 20-25 euros a day if you book online, but they're manual and the cars are nothing fancy. just make sure you inspect it before driving off, they're not the best about scratches. another option is to check nebenan.de or ebay kleinanzeigen for people renting out their own cars, sometimes way cheaper and more flexible with the return time. just read the reviews on the person first.

check out sixt on frankfurter allee, they usually have last-minute deals if you pick up during off-peak hours. weekend rates start around 30-40 euros for a small car but you gotta return it to the same station or it gets pricey. also try booking via billiger-mietwagen.de instead of direct, sometimes they have better cancellations policies if something goes wrong again

honestly for a last minute weekend trip id look at europcar at ostbahnhof, theyre less busy than the airport ones and sometimes have weekend specials that include a second driver for free. also check flinkster or miles if you just need the car for the drive down and back, their daily rates can be cheaper than traditional rentals if you're only covering like 600km total. just make sure whoever's name is on the booking has a credit card not debit, that's tripped up a few people i know at the counter

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
