Sprained foot - Hausarzt or General Hospital or Notarzt?

Hi guys,

While I was wearing heels yesterday I stupidly sprained (?) my foot. I didn't pay attention while walking on cobblestone and twisted my foot in a weird angle.

It was painful yesterday, but I could still walk it off and meet my friend. On my way home, I could not walk normally anymore and was limping. Before bed, I iced it for as long as I could and tried to keep it elevated while I slept.

Now it's 6 am and I'm realizing I need to see a doctor because I can barely put any weight on my foot. For such a situation on Friday, is it recommended to go to my Hausarzt, a general hospital (nearby one would be Caritas-Klinik Pankow), or the Zentrale Notaufnahme (also at Caritas)? I have crutches from a previous surgery so I can get myself there!

I've never had an accident or sudden injury like this so I'd really appreciate your advice. Thank you for your time!

Another option is to call 116117, the medical on-call service. They can tell you if a Bereitschaftspraxis near you is open and handling walk-ins, which might be faster than the Notaufnahme on a Friday morning. The one at Buch or even the one at the Sana Klinikum Lichtenberg usually have shorter waits than Caritas on Fridays. That said, if you truly can't put weight on it, the Notaufnahme is the safest call because they can do an MRI if the x-ray shows nothing but the pain stays bad. Just know that Caritas tends to triage you by severity, so if you're mobile on crutches you might end up sitting for a couple of hours regardless.

yeah that sounds rough, if you can barely put weight on it dont mess around with the hausarzt. the zentrale notaufnahme at caritas is your best bet, they'll x-ray it right there and you wont have to deal with a referral. just a heads up though, friday mornings at that place can get busy so bring water and expect to wait an hour or two. btw the crutches are smart, the walk from the u-bahn to the entrance is like 5 mins and it sucks when you're limping

honestly skip the hausarzt for this, they'll just send you to a radiologist anyway for an x-ray. go straight to the Caritas-Klinik Pankow's zentrale notaufnahme, they can do x-rays on site and you won't waste a whole morning bouncing between appointments. the wait might be a bit long on a friday morning but it's better than hobbling to two different places. bring your ecard and something to read, the chairs there are uncomfortable af

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
