Hi, beautiful city and country you have there.

However, quick question. Why do berliners not like fashion brands? Everyone wears black on a night out, black trainers , black jeans, black t shirts.

If you wear an obvious fashion brand you cannot always get into a club.

Why is this?

part of it is just that berlin has a long history of being a poor but creative city. people here got used to making do with less, and flashy brands feel out of touch with that. wearing a logo is almost like advertising that you didn't get the memo about the city's anti-consumerist vibe. plus, a lot of the best clubs started in squats or abandoned buildings, so dressing like you're going to a fashion show just feels wrong in that context.

honestly it's less about hating brands and more about the door policy vibe check. bouncers at places like sysiphos or kitkat look for people who seem like they're there for the music and the scene, not to be seen. a big logo just screams "i'm a tourist" or "i'm here to flex" and that's an instant red flag. plus if you're sweating on a packed dancefloor at 4am, a plain black tee is just practical

It's not really about not liking fashion brands, it's more about not wanting to look like you're trying too hard. Berlin club culture, especially around spots like Berghain or ://about blank, values a kind of utilitarian anti-fashion. Wearing a visible logo feels like you're signalling status or wealth, which clashes with the whole "everyone's equal on the dancefloor" vibe. Plus, black just doesn't show the dirt or sweat after a long night, and it's cheaper to replace a plain black t-shirt than a designer one if it gets ruined.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
