Where to dispose toys?

Hey Berliners, we have some toys that we want to dispose of and would prefer to donate them to a charity or organization that can pass them on to another child.

What is your suggestion?

fwiw the kinderheimat in wedding takes toy donations for their kids directly, they're on reinickendorfer straße near the u-bahn. no appointment needed just ring the bell at the main entrance and someone from the social service office will come down. they prefer stuff that's not too broken or missing pieces but board games and stuffed animals are always welcome there

honestly just put them on ebay kleinanzeigen as "zu verschenken" and someone will pick them up same day. saves u the schlepping across town. if theyre in decent shape berliner stadtmission takes toy donations at their sozialkaufhäuser, there's one near hermannplatz that's easy to get to. just call ahead first cause theyre picky about what they take

If the toys are still in good shape, you could drop them off at a "Kinder- und Jugendnotdienst" location. They always need things like board games, stuffed animals, or building blocks for kids who show up with nothing. The one near Leopoldplatz is easy to reach on the U6. Just call the Sozialamt first to make sure they're accepting donations that week because the rules change based on how full their storage is.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
