As someone who has love relationship with high-rise blocks that were being built in Eastern bloc, I wonder would this help solving the housing situation in Berlin ? Price of apartments in this building are also not too high.

Imagine building in the link but copy-pasted 5-6 times forming a neighborhood.

i mean marzahn itself is basically already that vibe lol, just older. the issue is more that berlin's building code and zoning make it a nightmare to get those heights approved anywhere central, plus the whole "no skyscrapers" thing from the city planning office

honestly the wuhletaler fenster project is interesting but it's kind of an outlier. most new construction in outer districts like marzahn sticks to 5-7 stories because of the flächennutzungsplan restrictions that cap height based on surrounding development. you'd need a bebauungsplan amendment to go taller and those take years of public consultation.

the real bottleneck isn't even zoning though, it's the berlin brandschutz requirements. anything over 22 meters needs a second staircase, sprinkler systems, and fire truck access that adds like 30% to construction costs. that's why you see those 7-story "punktbauten" everywhere instead of actual high-rises.

if you want that plattenbau energy i'd look at the wohnungsbaugesellschaften like howoge or degewo. they're still doing big slab construction in hohenschönhausen and heinersdorf but they keep them at 6 floors max. the economics just don't work for taller unless you're doing luxury which defeats the purpose.

yeah probably not tbh, berlin's pretty allergic to high-rises cause of the whole TV tower and cold war history thing, plus the locals hate the idea of "copy-paste" blocks after the plattenbau era even if they're affordable

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
