so I searched and it does say there is free access to wifi for patients and visitors but I also read online that its not reliable and you basically cant connect. is that true?

I'm about to be admitted and just wanted to see if i can count on the wifi or not.

thanks!

yeah honestly the wifi at Charite is kinda a gamble. I had a friend admitted to Campus Virchow last year and they could barely get a signal in their room, but the cafeteria area worked fine. if you're gonna be stuck in a bed for a while, I'd just grab a prepaid SIM with data from somewhere like Aldi Talk or Congstar before you go in. the hospital network is fine for checking emails or whatsapp but forget about anything heavy

ngl the wifi situation depends a lot on which building you're in. Campus Benjamin Franklin in Steglitz has decent coverage on the lower floors because they use repeaters, but Campus Mitte's old building is basically a faraday cage. if you're getting admitted to a station on the 3rd floor or higher at Mitte, just assume you'll be offline most of the time

a friend of mine was there last month and ended up using the public hotspot from the Deutsche Telekom network that pops up in the courtyard area. you can buy a 24-hour pass for like 5 euros if you don't want to mess with a SIM. might be worth having that as a fallback if your phone supports it

I've been to Charite a few times visiting friends and the wifi is technically there but it's pretty hit or miss. The public network tends to get overloaded during daytime hours, especially in the main buildings on Campus Mitte. If you're in a smaller ward or a quieter floor early in the morning, you'll probably get a connection, but don't count on streaming anything. I'd download whatever you need before you go in, or bring a mobile hotspot if your phone plan allows it.

Best tattoo artist in town?

arrow_drop_up 67 arrow_drop_down

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
