I work as a software engineer and back in London, most of my colleagues were so well dressed and smelled good. Sometimes we could tell a colleague was around by the smell of their perfume and we loved it (I know it could be annoying for some). We could tell which colleague was going to Ibiza and which one just returned :)

In Berlin it's the complete opposite. I remember the shock when I saw some of my colleagues wear slippers and shorts to work. I had a colleague who walked around the office barefoot. Another colleague wore the same shirt to work everyday and it stank. I learned to mind the business that pays me and I'm used to it now.

So I ask, how many of you actually dress well to work and like it? Do you have colleagues who dress well?

worked in both cities and the split is real but its less about individual taste and more about what the office rewards. in London dressing sharp was basically social currency, you got read as competent. here nobody clocks it so the incentive dies, and honestly the money goes elsewhere, rent eats it.

the exception ive noticed is client-facing roles. my friend does sales at a fintech near Hackescher Markt and she still does the blazer thing because the meetings are with banks. pure eng teams though? hoodie and its done. i keep one decent jacket at my desk for the days i have to actually look like a person.

berlin basically has no dress code in tech, its not rudeness its just how it is here. i work at a startup in kreuzberg and people show up in whatever, one guy cycles in from neukolln in full rain gear and just... stays in it. the one thing that does read as "put together" here is a clean pair of sneakers and a jacket that isnt a flecktarn surplus thing, thats kind of the local signal.

tbh the smell thing is real but its more about winter here. six months of u-bahn + heavy jackets + everyone cycling means people just get noseblind. i keep a spare shirt at the office in friedrichshain & it saved me more than once after a sweaty ride in. not really a dress code thing, more a practicality thing

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
