That happened in the late afternoon of Saturday (04.05.2024)

It was the "Palestine Solidarity" demonstration that caused the disruption. They started at S Landsberger Allee around 4pm and tried to march down Lenbachstraße, which isn't on the approved route, so the police blocked off the intersection and set up a kettle for about an hour. The helicopter was there to film from above and track anyone who broke off from the main group. If you want the official police statement, check the Polizei Berlin press portal on their website, they usually post a short report the next morning.

ngl the helicopter was the main giveaway, they dont usually hover that long unless something's actually happening. i was stuck on the m6 for like 20 minutes near storkower str, driver said they rerouted because of the demo blocking lenbachstr. if u want the full police report, check the polizei berlin twitter, they usually post live updates during these things, and then a summary the next day on their press site

i live right off S Landsberger Allee, saw the whole thing from my balcony. it was a pro-palestine demo that started at the S-Bahn station and then marched towards Frankfurter Allee, cops were out in full force cause they rerouted the route last minute. the helicopter was circling for like an hour, pretty annoying tbh. check the tagesspiegel newsletter, they had a short blurb about it this morning, nothing major just a lot of police presence for a permitted rally that got a bit chaotic

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
