Hello!

Apparently April/24 was the first time that some (or most of) museums in Berlin didn't need booking a ticket for Museumsonntag. I even was in some of them last month (Neues Museum, Altes Museum, and Neue Nationalgalerie), and they were not super crowded as I thought it would be - it was just fine, very nice.

This month I want to go to Deutsches Technikmuseum, but it is on the list of museums that require booking. Unfortunately I forgot to do it before and there are no tickets available now. If I just show up there on sunday and it is not crowded, would it still be possible to get a ticket?

yeah technikmuseum is a diffrent beast from the staatliche museen, they run their own ticketing system and dont participate in the walk-in part of museumsonntag. i tried the same thing in february and the security guy at the door was pretty firm about needing a reservation, even though it looked empty inside. your best bet is to refresh the page throughout saturday night and early sunday morning, slots do pop up from time to time when people cancel. if you really want to go that day, maybe check out the science center spectrum next door instead, it's free on museumsonntag and no booking needed

technikmuseum is one of the ones that actually checks bookings at the door, unlike the staatliche museen which were more relaxed. i've seen them turn people away on a quiet sunday because their system is separate from the museumsonntag program. your best bet is to keep checking the website day-of, sometimes slots open up when people cancel

honestly, the technikmuseum is pretty strict about it. they have their own separate system so they don't really bend the rules for museumsonntag walk-ins. i'd say just keep refreshing the booking page, sometimes spots open up last minute when people drop out

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
