Which football club do most berliners support ?

Union Berlin or Hertha Berlin ? And is there like a difference by area ? Like I noticed that Kreuzberg is filled with Hertha Berlin stickers and tags but I haven't seen anything of Union Union Berlin or Hertha Berlin ? And is there like a difference by area ? fwiw the whole hertha vs union thing is way less intense than people make it sound, most berliners just dont care that much. the real football culture here is about the lower leagues, like BFC Dynamo or even the amateur clubs in the kiez, those games have way more passion than a half empty olympiastadion.

if u want to see actual berlin football, skip the big two and catch a dynamo match at the sportforum, it's raw as hell and the ultras are proper lads, not the instagram crowd u see at union now. the tickets are like 10 euros and u can stand right next to the pitch, feels like football from 30 years ago.

also the sticker thing, hertha's ultras have that old school tagging culture from the 80s, it's part of their identity. union never had that, they were too busy surviving in the third division, their whole vibe is more about the club as a community thing, not about marking territory.

one thing nobody mentioned is the anthem thing, at union the whole stadium sings "eisern union" with the drums and it's proper loud even when they're losing. hertha's got "nur nach hause" which is nice but it's more of a singalong than a roar. if u go to a game at the alte försterei and hear that first chorus, u'll get why people make the trek out to köpenick.

Kreuzberg is actually a weird mix, there's Hertha tagging from the old punks but also a lot of Turkish-Cypriot bars where they only care about Galatasaray, so the stickers lie a bit. the real Union territory starts at Ostkreuz and goes east, once you cross the ringbahn into Rummelsburg or Karlshorst you see way more of their stuff.

the funniest thing is how the clubs handle derby day. when they play each other the whole city picks a side even people who never watch football, and the S-Bahn gets packed with both sets of fans yelling at each other but it's mostly good natured, not like other cities where it gets violent. if u want a real cultural shock go to a Hertha game when they're losing badly, the fans start bickering with each other louder than the away support, it's very Berlin.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
