Hey folks!

Is anyone from Berlin planning to go to Dokomi 2024 in Düsseldorf? I'm looking for fellow travelers to join me on the journey. Whether you've been before or it's your first time, let's ride together and have a great time!

Interested? Just drop me a message, and we can discuss the details.

Cheers

PS: The previous post may have seemed a bit too much like marketing. Just to clarify, I'm simply looking for companions since tickets are no longer available anyway.

dokomi is sick but tbh the drive from berlin to dusseldorf is like 6 hours without traffic. if u end up driving yourself, parking around the messe is a nightmare, better to park at a p+r lot and take the u-bahn in. last year a friend parked at merkur spiel arena lot for like 5 euros and it was a 10 min tram ride to the venue

I've done the Berlin to Dusseldorf drive for Dokomi a couple times. If you end up driving yourself, the A2 route through Braunschweig is usually smoother than going south via the A4. There's a Shell station right off the A2 near Lehrte that has surprisingly decent coffee and isn't as packed as the Raststatte ones closer to Berlin. Gas split three or four ways comes out to about 25-30 euros each, which is way less than the train if you didn't book weeks ahead.

honestly if ur flexible on timing, flixbus is usually way cheaper than the train if u book early. the ice from berlin hbf to dusseldorf hbf is like 4.5 hours but can be 80+ euros last minute. i'd check blablacar too, sometimes ppl drive from berlin and split gas which is under 30 euros each

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
