I dunno what kind of jobs are availabe in west berlin.

on the otherside, almost all tech companies locate in east side(or there are some in center too?)

but why? why cannot tech companies rent a place in west berlin?

west berlin is more reachable to resturants, to trees, no construction dirt..

It's mostly about cost and available space. Rents in West Berlin, especially in places like Charlottenburg or Wilmersdorf, are noticeably higher and the commercial real estate tends to be older office buildings that aren't set up for open floor plans or server rooms. The East had a lot of empty factory buildings and warehouses after the wall fell, which were cheap to convert into the kind of loft-style offices startups like. You also have a concentration effect now, where being in Mitte, Friedrichshain, or Kreuzberg puts you near other tech people and investors for networking, even if it means dealing with construction dust.

honestly a big piece is just how the city's old U-Bahn lines shaped things. west berlin's U2 and U7 were built around dense pre-war blocks so you get these narrow 5-story buildings where floors are like 80sqm max. east berlin had that wide soviet boulevard layout so you get these massive halls with 4m ceilings from old printing presses or textile factories

also the whole startup thing feeds itself now. if you're a founder you want to be 10min walk from other founders at betahaus or factory berlin. that's all in mitte or xhain. nobody's doing lunch meetings in halensee unless it's a proper corporate gig

west berlin does have way better trees though lol. i know people who work at soundcloud or n26 and they just accept the construction noise because they can bike to a good döner spot in 2 minutes

The tech scene here has a lot to do with the old division of the city and what was left behind. In the East, after reunification, there were all these massive, empty industrial buildings from the GDR era that nobody wanted. Those became cheap, flexible spaces for startups and creative agencies, especially around places like Warschauer Strasse and Holzmarkt.

West Berlin's commercial real estate is mostly in pre-war buildings with smaller floor plans and higher rents per square meter, which isn't great for the open-plan office culture tech companies want. You'll find a few newer companies in Moabit or near the Hauptbahnhof, but the established tech hub is definitely east of the Tiergarten. The construction noise is a pain, but the proximity to other founders and events in Friedrichshain makes up for it for most people I know.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
