Having trouble with loud agressive Eigentumer neighbour? You're on your own.

Thanks to everyone commenting with some advice or support. I decided to follow your advice and quitted the contract... moving in with a friend after the 3 month period notice! I will be start again my life in the complete opposite Bezirk of town. Im not im a position to be picky now, so welcome changes!

Now, my rant: If you are renting in Berlin and you're having trouble with your Eigentumer neighbours because of loud screaming/violence...consider yourself on your own. Today we had to call the police on him again because he was screaming. One could hear her scream too. They came, spoke to them, and came to speak to us afterwards. If the woman don't have visible violence marks, is not a Straftat, ergo not police responsibility. About loud noises they also can't do anything because is Ordnungsamt job (but they will not come, because is not urgent aaand I have to have a Lärmprotokol which i do have). He states "he was on a work call". Police believed.Thats it. Good luck. Disappointed and stressed far and beyond. Oh and I went to therapy too and they diagnosed PTSD after I described my symptoms. I definetly lost this battle...

Anyways, any ideas to make a golden exit when is time to move??

fwiw, the golden exit move is to make the Ubergabe as clean as possible so they have zero reason to hold your Kaution. take photos of everything the day you hand over the keys, even the spots behind the toilet and under the sink. if the guy is that aggressive, he'll prob try to claim damage that was there before you or blame you for normal wear and tear.

also, if you havent already, send your Kundigung per Einschreiben with a photo of the signed letter. some landlords in Berlin will "lose" it and then claim you never gave notice. better to have the proof than to deal with another round of stress.

one more thing - if you're moving to a complete other Bezirk, check if your new place has a proper Anmeldung slot booked already. the Burgeramt waits are still brutal in some areas, and you dont want that hanging over your head while you're trying to settle in.

If you're moving to a completely different Bezirk, consider timing the move with a public holiday or a weekend when the guy is less likely to be home. Pfingsten is coming up in a few weeks, and a lot of people take that whole week off. Get a couple of friends with a Transporter booked for early morning, pack everything the night before, and be out by 9am. Less chance of a scene in the Treppenhaus if he's not expecting it.

Also worth checking whether your new place has a briefkasten that's actually lockable and in good shape. Some Altbau buildings in the outer Bezirke have dodgy mailboxes, and you don't want important documents like your Abmeldung or new rental contract going missing while you're still settling in. A quick look at the mailbox situation before you sign can save you another headache.

honestly the best golden exit move is to do the ubergabe with a witness, preferably someone who looks like they know their rights. bring a friend who speaks perfect german and is calm under pressure, not someone who'll get rattled if the guy starts yelling. i've seen landlords back down quick when there's a third person taking notes and photos on their phone.

also, if you can swing it, hand the keys back at the hausverwaltung office instead of meeting him directly. some verwaltungen let you drop keys in their briefkasten or at a reception desk. saves you one last confrontation in the treppenhaus.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
