Can anyone tell me more about the nature of this strike? That is, who is involved and whether this is localized to Berlin or if this is nationwide? Just need to know how this affects me and my plans personally so I can make alternate arrangements if necessary. Responses in English and German are okay. Thanks everyone.

On a semi-related note, can someone tell me if there are protections for flyers who have flights cancelled per EU regulation, and what those protections including possible compensation are? To perhaps complicate matters, the flight is inbound from the UK.

Flagged as discussion because I don't think the question is really that interesting, just selfishly important.

verdi is the union behind most of these, and when it hits BER it's usually the ground staff (Bodenverkehr) not air traffic control, so it tends to be BER-specific rather than nationwide. check if ur flight is actually departing or just arriving, because ground handling strikes hit departures harder. if ur inbound from the UK and it gets cancelled, EU261 still applies since the flight lands in the EU, and the UK kept basically the same rules post-brexit so u can claim from either end depending on the carrier

tbh the bigger issue with BER strikes is the S-Bahn and the FEX getting slammed when everyone rebooks, not the strike itself. if your flight does get cancelled, check whether the airline offers rebooking on the same day, because BER only has so many flights to the UK and the next available seat might be 2 days out. also worth knowing: EU261 compensation is 250 euros for your distance bracket (under 1500km), but it drops to zero if the airline can argue "extraordinary circumstances," and strikes are exactly the gray zone they'll fight you on. the UK CAA has a decent complaint template if the carrier stonewalls you.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
