Experiene building in a Dachgeschoss?

Two things I don't see mentioned yet: the Brandschutz requirements and the fact that your Nachbar downstairs has rights too. Berlin fire code for dachgeschoss conversions is specific about having a second escape route unless you're under a certain height, which might mean a fire ladder on the outside or a special window. And if you're touching the shared roof structure, your downstairs neighbor has to sign off on the statik changes because it's their ceiling too. I dealt with this in Wedding and the neighbor approval process took longer than the actual Bauamt permit. Check your Teilungserklärung first, sometimes the attic isn't even part of your Sondereigentum.

one thing nobody's mentioned yet is the noise factor. those dachgeschoss floors are basically a drum for the whole building, so you'll want to think about schallschutz early. putting down a proper entkopplungsmatte under your floor and using mineral wool in the walls makes a huge difference. also check if the building has a fahrstuhl, carrying everything up 5 flights gets old fast and moving companies charge extra for no lift. i did mine in friedrichshain and the hardest part was actually getting the abfallentsorgung sorted, you can't just dump old roof tiles in a normal container

the insulation requirements caught me off guard in my dachgeschoss in neukölln. they've gotten stricter in the last few years so you might need a certain u-value for the roof which can eat up headroom if you're not careful. also think about how you're getting materials up there, we had to crane a bathtub through the balcony window because the stairs were too narrow. check your baulastenverzeichnis too, sometimes there's weird stuff registered against the property that affects what you can do

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
