Cleaning up == gentrifying?!

I got into a bit of an argument with a person about litter picking. In my view it is great thing to do and great to see public spaces in Berlin cleaned up. This person claims that it changes the character of the city and will lead to further gentrification and increased rent in the long run. Curious to hear your opinion

that person's take is wild honestly. litter picking doesn't change the character of berlin, it just makes it less gross. the city's character is graffiti on s-bahn trains and 2am döner, not broken glass on the sidewalk. if anything, letting trash pile up just makes the neighborhood look abandoned, which is what actually attracts the developers who buy up blocks for cheap.

I think that person is confusing cause and effect. Litter picking is a response to neglect, not a driver of rising rents. The real gentrification happens when investors see a neighborhood as undervalued and start buying up buildings, not when someone picks up a beer bottle at Mauerpark.

honestly i get where they're coming from but i think they're mixing up cause and effect. litter picking is just people taking pride in their kiez, not some master plan by developers. i've seen the same thing in neukölln where folks started a community garden on a trashy lot and rents still went up anyway because that's just berlin now.

the real driver of gentrification here is investors buying up altbau apartments and turning them into 'luxury' rentals, not someone with a trash grabber at hermannplatz. if anything, a cleaner neighborhood makes it nicer for everyone who already lives there. the character of berlin is changing because of speculation and airbnb, not because a few people picked up cigarette butts.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
