Good affordable criminal lawyer in Berlin?

Asking for a friend of course. Any recommendations much appreciated! Asking for a friend of course. Any recommendations much appreciated!

One thing nobody's mentioned: check whether your friend's case is even in Berlin. Strafrecht is handled by the Staatsanwaltschaft for the district where the alleged offense happened, so if it's something that went down in Potsdam or Oranienburg, they want a lawyer admitted there, not a Berlin Kanzlei. For Berlin proper, the big courthouses are Moabit for most serious stuff and Tiergarten for smaller matters, so a lawyer whose office is near either one tends to know the local Richter and Schöffen better. I'd ask any candidate which Gericht they usually appear at before worrying about price.

if its just an erstberatung to figure out what ur friend is actually facing, some kanzleien around kottbusser tor do a flat 80-150 for the first sit down, cheaper than the big names in mitte. ask upfront what the erstberatung costs & whether it gets credited toward the full mandate if u stay with them. also worth knowing: if it's a verkehrsstrafsache (trunkenheit, unfallflucht etc) a lot of the usual strafrecht people hand those to a colleague anyway so ask specifically before u book

The Anwaltverein route is solid, but one thing to flag early: criminal defense is one of the areas where the state will actually assign a Pflichtverteidiger if the case is serious enough, and that lawyer gets paid by the court rather than your friend. It's not the same as picking your own, and the quality varies a lot, but for anything heading toward a Hauptverhandlung it's worth knowing the option exists. For picking someone privately, look at whether they're a Fachanwalt für Strafrecht and check recent cases on their site, since a lot of generalists list Strafrecht but mostly do Verkehrsrecht.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
