Anyone traveling from Berlin to Portland, Oregon soon?
There are a few simple items that I've run out of, that I cannot buy locally. Available a… Hey Berliners of all stripes. I lived for a number of years in Berlin, but now I'm back in my home territory.
There are a few simple items that I've run out of, that I cannot buy locally. Available at any Lidl or Spätie.
If you happen to be traveling from where you are to where I am, I can reimburse you for the items (in euro or dollar) and further: pick you up from the airport in a Citroen 2CV with the top rolled back (or if bad weather in a normal car) and drop you off wherever you'd like to go.
I can also offer (entirely optionally) economical accommodation in a guest room (private entrance, bathroom, etc.) for a few days (5-10). Note: in St Johns neighborhood, which is quaint but not particularly central).

honestly the guest room in st johns is the real draw here, it's a chill neighborhood and you're close to forest park for hiking. the 2cv airport pickup is just a bonus
if nobody bites on this try posting in the berlin expat facebook groups, there's always someone flying to the west coast. also check if the stuff you need is available at the russian supermarket on warschauer, they carry a lot of the same eastern european brands as lidl
st johns is a solid choice for a base tbh, the cathedral park view of the st johns bridge is worth waking up for. i used to bike down to the lompoc brewery there all the time when i lived in that area.
if no one bites on the lidl stuff, check if your local russian or turkish markets might have similar brands, some of the eastern european imports overlap with what you'd find at a berlin späti.
also your 2cv offer is legendary, i bet the folks at the saturday market would lose their minds if you rolled up in that thing.
What kind of items are we talking about? I've got a friend flying out to Seattle next week, could probably reroute through Portland if it's small stuff. The 2CV offer is genuinely tempting, I've never seen one in person.
What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?
Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.
if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point
honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
