I am going to receive my preliminary masters degree certificate in a week but my residence permit (student Visa) lasts until end of this year. Do I have to leave immediately after I receive my certificate or can I stay for a grace period? I haven't made up my mind regarding applying for Job Seeker visa. Any advice is highly appreciated.

fwiw the job seeker permit is prob your best bet if you want to stay and look for work, but theres a trick - you need to apply before your current permit expires, even if you're still undecided. the LEA at keplerstrasse usually takes 4-6 weeks to process, so mid november is a good deadline to have your paperwork ready. also your health insurance might change once you're not a student anymore, that caught me off guard when I graduated

You can stay until your permit expires, you don't have to leave the day you get the certificate. The real question is whether you want to switch to the 18-month job seeker permit now or wait. If you're still figuring things out, it's worth going to the LEA (Landesamt für Einwanderung) in person to ask about the timing, because the 18 months start from when they approve it, not from your graduation date. I'd recommend getting that sorted sooner rather than later, the appointments can take weeks to get.

yeah you can stay until the permit runs out, no need to rush off. just keep in mind the job seeker visa clock doesn't start ticking until you actually apply, so if you're still weighing options you could wait a bit. but the LEA at keplerstrasse can get backed up, so if you do decide to switch, don't leave it to the last week of december or you'll be stuck without options

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
