Currency exchange for coins around Berlin?
honestly coins are a pain here. if you know anyone with a berlin-based sparkasse account, they can dump them in the coin counting machines at a branch for free and then just hand you the cash. no account? they'll take a 5% cut or so. there's a wechselstube right next to alexa mall that might help, but i've never tried with coins there. your best bet is probably just finding a swiss tourist near brandenburger tor and offering a friendly trade lol
The Swiss embassy won't do it, they deal in diplomatic stuff not pocket change. What you can try is the Reisebank inside the Hauptbahnhof, they have coin counting machines for a fee, about 5-7% last I checked. If you're near Friedrichshain, there's a little Wechselstube on Warschauer Strasse near the Spree that sometimes takes coins if you're friendly, but call ahead first, they're hit or miss. Otherwise, honestly, just use the coins at a Späti or kiosk for small purchases, it's less hassle than the fees.
If you're near Friedrichstrasse, the exchange office inside the Galeries Lafayette basement is usually willing to count coins, especially if it's not a huge pile. Just be aware they take a small commission on coin exchanges, around 3-5% depending on the amount. Alternatively, some of the smaller Turkish-run exchange shops in Neukölln along Karl-Marx-Strasse are more flexible with coins than the big bank kiosks.
