Heading to Montpellier next month, any hidden gems?

I'll be in Montpellier for a week starting mid next month and I'm trying to skip the tourist traps. What are some under the radar spots for good wine bars or local hangouts? honestly skip the Place de la Comedie area for wine, head to Rue de l'Aiguillerie instead. there's a tiny spot called Le Bar à Vin that's basically a hole in the wall with like 40 wines by the glass, most locals don't even know about it. if you're there on a tuesday night they do a natural wine tasting thing for like 12 euros, pours are generous

skip the wine bars entirely for one night and hit up le chapitre on rue de l'ancien courrier. it's a bookshop that turns into a wine & cheese spot after 7pm, the selection is small but curated and you'll be sitting on mismatched furniture surrounded by locals reading or arguing about politics. also check out marché du lez on a saturday morning, the food stalls are insane and there's a guy who does oysters with a mignonette that's honestly better than most restaurants in town

If you want a proper local hangout, skip the wine bars for a bit and check out La Panacée. It's a contemporary art center near the Corum that has a courtyard cafe, the vibe is super relaxed and full of students and artists. They do natural wines by the glass for around 5 euros and the rotating exhibitions are always interesting, plus it's free on the first Sunday of the month. For a proper wine bar that isn't Le Bar à Vin, try Le Petit Mec on Rue des Etuves, it's tiny and they serve tapas with their wines, the owner is a sommelier who really knows his stuff.
