Where should I snap photos in Kikwit?
The market near the central roundabout on Avenue de la Liberation is great for street shots, especially early morning when the light hits the produce stalls. For landscapes, head to the hills just east of town near the old mission station, you get a nice view of the Kwilu River snaking through the valley. I'd skip the main bridge at midday, the light is too harsh and the dust from traffic ruins the clarity.
honestly the best landscape shot i've gotten was from the top of the water tower near the Institut Technique, it's a bit of a climb but you get the whole city grid and the river bend in one frame. for street stuff, the side alleys off Avenue de la Revolution around 5pm have this golden dust haze that makes everything look cinematic, especially with the old Citroen taxis parked up. the central market is already mentioned but the fish section near the back has better angles than the front stalls
If you're after landscapes, the stretch along the Kwilu River near the ferry crossing on Avenue du Fleuve gives you a different perspective than the hills. Late afternoon there, around 4:30, the water catches a warm orange glow and you can frame the pirogues coming in. For street shots, the stretch of Avenue de l'Independance just past the big Catholic church has some old colonial facades with peeling paint, good texture for black and white work.
