honestly the mango pomelo sago at sweet garden is good but their durian pancake is the real hidden gem. 18 RMB for two pieces and they make the cream fresh, not from a can. only 3 tables inside so u might have to take it to go but it's worth the squeeze
if ur doing the food court in zijinglu mall, go during off hours like 2-4 pm. the stalls get a second wind of fresh ingredients around then and u wont be fighting the lunch crowd. the guy at the shandong pancake stall on the far left makes a mean jianbing for 8 RMB with extra crispy cracker
tbh the night market tip is spot on but you gotta hit Auntie Li's stall right when they open at 6. her skewers sell out fast and by 8pm she's usually down to just the chicken hearts. i always grab 5 of the lamb skewers and eat them walking down Mingzhu Lane, that's the move. the sweet potato ones are okay but the lamb is where it's at

getting around Zijinglu in 4 months?
honestly the metro in Zijinglu is pretty solid for a smaller city, it covers most of the main areas like the university district and the mall strip along Renmin Road. buses are cheap but they can be a bit unreliable with timing, especially outside peak hours. taxis are fine but drivers sometimes won't use the meter if they see you're a newcomer, so grab the Didi app instead. if you're staying near the central square you can prob walk to most things within 15 minutes
The metro is your best bet for getting across town quickly, it runs from about 6am to 10:30pm and hits most of the useful spots like the train station and East Market. Buses are fine for short hops but the routes can be confusing if you don't read Chinese, and they stop running earlier than the metro. I'd suggest getting a metro card from any station kiosk, it saves you fumbling with change and works on the bus too.
I'd say just use a mix depending on where you're headed. The metro is fine for the main spine of the city, but the east side near the tech park is a pain without a Didi. Bikeshare is actually pretty good here, there are blue and yellow bikes all over and it's cheap for short trips, just scan with WeChat and you're set. If you're out late, the bus lines stop around 9pm, so plan for that or expect a taxi surge.
