Nice write up. I'd add that the breakfast scene around the Drum Tower is worth getting up early for. The jianbing stalls are good but the real find is the laobing, a thick wheat crepe with egg and youtiao that runs about 5 CNY. The vendors set up around 6 AM and are usually sold out by 9.
For a less touristy evening spot, try the food street on Binjiang Road near the shopping district. It's more locals than visitors, and the lamb skewers from the third stall on the left are consistently better than anything at Nanshi. A skewer is 3 CNY and they'll grill it with cumin and chili to your preference.
honestly the guide's solid but i'd swap the touristy nanshi food street for the alley behind the tianjin art museum on heping road. there's a guy who sets up a cart around 7pm selling chuan'r that he marinates in soy and five spice overnight, way more flavor than the generic skewers elsewhere. 2 CNY each and he'll toss on some sesame if you ask
also the gai wan cha at zhangji tea house is fine but the old guy at the drum tower north gate has better stuff. he brews it in these chipped ceramic bowls and charges 10 CNY, plus he lets you sit on his little stools and watch the crowds go by. way more authentic than the tourist spot on gulou east street
one thing the guide doesnt mention is the xiaochi (small eats) scene around the tianjin railway station west exit. there's a cluster of carts that show up around 5pm selling lu da gun, a rolled soybean cake with sweet bean filling for like 3 CNY each. the old lady with the blue cart near the bus stop has been doing it for 20 years, her version is way less sugary than the tourist ones
also if you're doing the italian style town at night, skip the grilled squid and look for the guy selling jiang mi qie gao (sticky rice cake with red bean). he sets up near the fountain around 8pm, charges 5 CNY for a thick slice. it's chewy and warm and way better than the fried stuff everyone else pushes

for day 2, the water park is nice but the real gem is the little lake garden just south of it, called Changhong Park. it's like a 5 minute walk and has these old men playing xiangqi under the willow trees, way more chill than the main park. the paddleboats at the water park are fun but the queue can be 20 minutes on weekends.
the metro tip is good but one thing nobody mentions is that the yikatong card also works on the buses and some taxis, which is handy if you get stuck somewhere without a station. i'd also say the ancient culture street is better in the late afternoon when the light hits the tile roofs, but your timing is fine.

day 2 at the Water Park, if you go on a weekend theres a flea market near the north gate from 8am to noon, old coins, random antiques, some pretty cool stuff if you dig around. i found a 1960s tianjin bus token there for 5 yuan last month. the museum is great but skip the top floor exhibits, theyre mostly propaganda posters from the 70s, not super interesting unless youre into that.

For the Five Avenue dinner, Kiessling is a classic but if you want something more casual, there's a great little noodle shop called Liu's Noodles on Chongqing Dao that does a hand-pulled noodles in beef broth for about 25 yuan, it's a 5 minute walk from the metro exit. The museum tip about the cloakroom is spot on too, it saves a lot of hassle.
