Been to Suohe twice for work and the guide gets the shape right. One thing nobody ever mentions: the Old Town Mosque on the west edge of the historic center is worth a look even if you're not Muslim. It's a Ming-era courtyard build with Chinese-style eaves and a prayer hall, free to walk in outside prayer times, just dress modestly and don't wander into the hall during services.
On transport, the bus info is accurate but buses basically stop running useful routes after 7pm, so if you're out at the night market plan on Didi back. Also the Suohe Youth Hostel near the bus station is cheap for a reason, rooms face the depot and it's noisy from 5am. Suohe Inn is the better call if you value sleep.
appreciate u putting this together, most guides skip suohe entirely. one thing i'd add is the night market on renmin road, u mentioned it opens at 6 but honestly roll in closer to 7:30. half the stalls are still setting up at 6 & the good lamb skewer guy doesnt fire up till later. also bring small bills, nobody there breaks a 100
different angle but worth knowing: if ur into temples, the small Guandi shrine a few blocks north of the confucian temple is basically unmarked & free, old guy who tends it
Good writeup, covers way more than most Suohe guides do. One thing I'd add on the budget side: the 300-500 CNY a day figure is realistic but it assumes you're paying full ticket price everywhere. Several of the sites on Day 1 and Day 3 knock off half for students and for anyone over 60, so bring ID if that applies to you.
Bigger tip though, the Old Town is genuinely dead on weekday mornings. Most of the courtyard shops and snack stalls don't bother opening till after 10, so if you follow the "start early

been going to suohe every few years since my grandma lived off south street so a couple things
the pottery thing someone else mentioned is real but the workshops mostly shut for lunch 12 to 2, so dont roll up at 1 expecting to throw a cup. mornings before the tour groups hit are best
also nobody ever mentions the old canal lock house just past the north bridge, tiny stone building, free to poke around and the guy who tends it will tell u how the boats used to get raised through if u ask. way more interesting than the temple tbh
and yeah skip the food street stinky tofu, the cart by the east gate dock does it better for the same 5 yuan
the boat thing is solid but skip the rowboat rental if u go in the afternoon, the canal gets jammed with tour boats after 2pm and u just end up bumping into everyone. go right at 9 when they open or ask about the sunset slot since most ppl clear out by 5. also the dock near east gate sometimes runs out of boats on weekends so get there early or call ahead, my cousin showed up at 4 on a saturday and waited like 40 min
one thing the guide missed: the old teahouse does a morning guqin thing around 7am before the storytelling crowd shows, way more chill if ur into that. tea is same 25 yuan

one thing i'd add is timing your visit around the lunar calendar. i went during the qingming weekend once and the ancient town was shoulder to shoulder, couldnt even get onto the stone bridge. if u can go on a random tuesday in like late april or early october its a completely different place, vendors actually have time to chat
also the 1 yuan buses stop running earlier than ppl expect on sundays, more like 6pm not 8, so dont get stranded at the bamboo grove thinking u can just hop one back
