Honestly, the hike up to the Songyang Old Street market on a weekend morning is worth it just for the street food scene. Grab some local noodles and watch the old guys play chess, it's a chill vibe. If you've got a car, head out to the Shicang Bookstore too, it's a pretty wild modern building in the middle of nowhere.
You'll want to hit the ancient villages along the Songyin River. Yangjiatang is the most famous one, about 40 minutes by bus from the county center, with those classic yellow earth houses and stone paths. If you've got a car, drive further up to Chengyi Village for a quieter vibe and a proper 800-year-old banyan tree. The bus from Songyang's main station to Yangjiatang runs hourly and costs around 10 yuan, just check the last return time so you don't get stuck.
The bamboo raft ride down the Songyin River is a solid way to kill an afternoon, pretty calm and scenic. You can catch one from the dock near the old bridge, just haggle a bit on the price.
