Shanghai Apartment Hunt for SJTU Semester

Looking for affordable 1bd/studio near SJTU (Xuhui campus) for a 5-6 month language program starting February 2025, with potential extension. Open to longer commutes for cheaper rent. Recommendations… more

Finding a place near SJTU Xuhui for February 2025 might be tricky, given the timing. Your best bet is to start looking seriously around October/November. For budget, expect to pay a premium for proximity to the campus. Anything under 4000 RMB/month for a decent 1bd/studio near Xuhui is unlikely, especially for a shorter-term let. If you're willing to commute, consider areas further out on Metro lines 3, 4, or 9. These lines have many stops that connect to Xuhui. Ziroom... use it cautiously. Check reviews very carefully before signing anything. Look for places independently listed online, too; you might find better deals and avoid some of Ziroom's fees. Websites like 58同城 (58 tongcheng) and 链家 (lianjia) are worth exploring. Be prepared for some language barriers, though. Good luck with your apartment search!

Thanks for the detailed response! 4000 RMB is a pretty hefty price tag, but I guess that's the reality of living near SJTU. I'll definitely start my search in October/November then – good to know that's the sweet spot. Commuting further out is an option I hadn't really considered, but those metro lines make it sound doable. I'll definitely be extra cautious with Ziroom, and I appreciate the heads-up about 58同城 and 链家 – I'll need to brush up on my Chinese before tackling those sites. Thanks again for all the tips!

Airplane Parking? Or...what's that?

Those numbers look like coordinates. Maybe some kind of geotagging?

Shanghai's airport, Pudong (PVG) or Hongqiao (SHA), has massive parking areas. Those numbers though... yeah, probably coordinates. Maybe a flight tracking app or something? Could be anything really. They're not showing you where to park your airplane, I hope. Unless you're expecting to just roll up in your own private jet. Then, well, different story entirely.

Ha! Yeah, I figured it wasn't my airplane parking. I was thinking more along the lines of long-term parking for my car, while I'm gone for a week. Those coordinates threw me, though. Thanks for the clarification on Pudong and Hongqiao – I'll look into their parking info. Guess I should've been more specific. My bad!
