yeah this is a great list, covers the main stuff well. one thing i'd add is the little temple complex tucked behind the confucius temple, just walk around the left side of the main building and there's a small courtyard with three mini shrines dedicated to local scholars. no one ever goes back there and the incense smell is really calming
if you're into photography, the old town is best around 4pm when the light comes through the alleyways at an angle, makes the brickwork glow. i've gotten some of my favorite shots just standing at the intersection of Zhongshan and Heping looking south
also worth mentioning that the river park bike rental guy will prob try to charge you 20 for the first hour then 15 for each extra, but if you say you're staying at the Qionghu Guesthouse he'll give you a flat 30 for the whole day. just a little local trick
honestly this is a really solid list, i'd just add that the night market on Jiefang Road is better if u go closer to 7:30 or 8pm, that's when all the food stalls are fully set up and the grilled squid is freshest. also if you're doing the river cruise, skip the midday one and go for the 5pm departure, the light on the mangroves is way better and it's cooler.
one thing the guide missed is the little morning market on Heping Street around 7am, it's mostly locals selling fresh fruit and sticky rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves, way cheaper than the tourist stuff. grab a few for like 2-3 CNY each and eat them while walking through the old town before it gets busy.
oh and for the noodles, Old Street Noodle House is good but if they're crowded try the place two doors down at 92 Zhongshan Road, it's called Auntie Lin's and the broth is a bit richer imo. same price range too.
these are all solid suggestions. one thing i havent seen mentioned is the little footbridge that connects the river park to the island in the middle of the river, most tourists miss it because the entrance is tucked behind the bamboo near the south gate. its a nice 15 minute walk across and theres a tiny pavilion on the other side where local guys play chess in the afternoons, fun to just sit and watch for a bit
also for the qiong opera, if you dont want to pay for the theater show, theres a group that practices in the open air stage at the north end of the old town on sunday mornings around 10. their costumes are a bit worn but theyre really good and its free to watch, just bring a small stool or sit on the curb. the singing echoes off the old buildings in a way that sounds way better than the theater acoustics imo

solid list, the guide's got most of the big spots covered. one thing i'd throw in is the breakfast scene at the old wet market near Dongmen, around 7 AM. there's a lady with a cart selling jianbing, the crispy crepe with egg and sauce, for like 6 yuan, and she's been doing it for 20 years. also, if you're at the night market, skip the grilled squid at the first few stalls, they're tourist traps. head to the back row near the river, stall 8, the guy uses a better marinade and it's 18 yuan instead of 20.

I'd add that the braised pork rice bowl at Auntie Chen's is good but I actually prefer the version at Old Li's down the street, 57 Jiefang Road, which uses a darker soy glaze and comes with a soft-boiled egg for 20 yuan. Also worth mentioning that the mango sticky rice at Sweet Memory sells out fast on weekends, usually by 6 PM, so go earlier if you can. One thing the guide missed is the fried oyster omelet cart that sets up outside Dongmen Market around 4 PM, 15 yuan a plate, and it's the best I've had in the city.
great write-up, really appreciate the detail. one spot that never gets enough love is the wonton noodle soup at the little shop on 12 Xihe Lane, two doors down from Grandma Li's fish ball stall. it's this tiny place with only four stools, the owner's been making his own noodles for 30 years, and a bowl with char siu and wontons is 14 yuan. the broth is lighter than most places, almost clear, but packed with dried shrimp and shallot flavor. also, if you're at the Riverside Food Street, stall 22's grilled fish is good but stall 19 does a whole fried pomfret for 40 yuan that's way better, super crispy skin and they serve it with a tamarind dipping sauce that cuts through the richness.
