Best photo spots in Qionghu?
If you're into wildlife or bird photography, bring a long lens to the Donghai Wetlands just south of town. The egrets and herons are active around sunrise, and the mist over the reeds makes for a moody shot. For something completely different, the abandoned pier at the old ferry terminal on the east side of the river has a rusted-out boat that's great for grungy compositions, especially after rain when the puddles reflect the sky.
yeah theres a little temple up on the hill behind the main market, forget the name but the steps are all mossy and theres this old banyan tree that looks amazing in the late afternoon. also the bridge over the river at night has some cool neon reflections if u bring a tripod
honestly the old town area near the Wanquan River is prob your best bet for photos, the light hits those colonial buildings real nice around 4pm. if u want something quieter, head up to the Baishiling Reservoir about 20 mins out of town, there's a small path along the dam that gives u a killer view of the water and hills, no tourists there. also the Qionghu rice terraces just past the Chaobo village are pretty underrated, they're not as famous as Yuanyang but way more chill to shoot without crowds

🌳 Explore Wanquan River Park
The Wanquan River Park stretches for 3 kilometers along the riverbank and is perfect for a morning stroll or bike ride. Rent a bicycle for 20 CNY per hour at the park's east entrance. The park is free to enter and open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
🍜 Taste Local Noodles
Qionghu is famous for its Qionghu Noodles, a rice noodle soup with a rich pork bone broth. Head to Old Street Noodle House at 88 Zhongshan Road for an authentic bowl starting at 12 CNY. They are open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., so go for breakfast.

The Qionghu Confucius Temple, built in 1620, is one of the best-preserved in Hainan. Admission is 30 CNY, and it is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Look for the ancient banyan tree in the courtyard, said to be over 400 years old.
🛶 Take a River Cruise
A 40-minute boat ride on the Wanquan River offers views of mangrove forests and fishing villages. Boats depart from the pier near the park's south gate every hour from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., costing 50 CNY per person. Evening cruises at sunset are especially popular.
🛍️ Shop at the Night Market
The Qionghu Night Market on Jiefang Road comes alive after 6 p.m. with stalls selling local snacks, handicrafts, and clothing. Try the grilled squid skewers for 10 CNY and the coconut rice cakes for 5 CNY. Bargaining is expected, so start at half the asking price.
🏞️ Hike in Baishiling Forest
Just 15 minutes by taxi from the city center, Baishiling Forest Park offers well-marked trails through tropical rainforest. The main loop takes about 2 hours and leads to a waterfall with a swimming hole. Entrance is 25 CNY, and the park is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
🎭 Watch a Qiong Opera
Qiong Opera is a local Hainanese tradition with colorful costumes and high-pitched singing. Performances are held at the Qionghu Grand Theater on Renmin Road every Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets range from 40 to 80 CNY and can be bought at the door.
yeah this is a great list, covers the main stuff well. one thing i'd add is the little temple complex tucked behind the confucius temple, just walk around the left side of the main building and there's a small courtyard with three mini shrines dedicated to local scholars. no one ever goes back there and the incense smell is really calming
if you're into photography, the old town is best around 4pm when the light comes through the alleyways at an angle, makes the brickwork glow. i've gotten some of my favorite shots just standing at the intersection of Zhongshan and Heping looking south
also worth mentioning that the river park bike rental guy will prob try to charge you 20 for the first hour then 15 for each extra, but if you say you're staying at the Qionghu Guesthouse he'll give you a flat 30 for the whole day. just a little local trick
honestly this is a really solid list, i'd just add that the night market on Jiefang Road is better if u go closer to 7:30 or 8pm, that's when all the food stalls are fully set up and the grilled squid is freshest. also if you're doing the river cruise, skip the midday one and go for the 5pm departure, the light on the mangroves is way better and it's cooler.
one thing the guide missed is the little morning market on Heping Street around 7am, it's mostly locals selling fresh fruit and sticky rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves, way cheaper than the tourist stuff. grab a few for like 2-3 CNY each and eat them while walking through the old town before it gets busy.
oh and for the noodles, Old Street Noodle House is good but if they're crowded try the place two doors down at 92 Zhongshan Road, it's called Auntie Lin's and the broth is a bit richer imo. same price range too.
these are all solid suggestions. one thing i havent seen mentioned is the little footbridge that connects the river park to the island in the middle of the river, most tourists miss it because the entrance is tucked behind the bamboo near the south gate. its a nice 15 minute walk across and theres a tiny pavilion on the other side where local guys play chess in the afternoons, fun to just sit and watch for a bit
also for the qiong opera, if you dont want to pay for the theater show, theres a group that practices in the open air stage at the north end of the old town on sunday mornings around 10. their costumes are a bit worn but theyre really good and its free to watch, just bring a small stool or sit on the curb. the singing echoes off the old buildings in a way that sounds way better than the theater acoustics imo
